OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY HEALTH ADMINISTRATION
(OSHA) TRAINING Safety Training is a critical part of the operation of any business. Yet many businesses have adopted the bad practice of using only video and computer-based training for their employees in order to meet their particular Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) requirements. Some companies use on-line training only because they feel that it is less expensive, more efficient or because it takes less time. That is a big mistake! In fact, OSHA frowns upon the sole use of video or computer-based training! The agency's policy on such practices:
"It is OSHA's policy that use of computer-based training by itself would not be sufficient to meet the intent of the standard's various training requirements. There are two primary considerations for you to explore before deciding whether to take an on-line HAZWOPER course.
Through our subsidiary, OSTI, we have provided quality training to suit all of our clients' needs on a site by site, job by job basis. We have serviced many types of clients from non-profit organizations to land development companies. Perhaps the most important clients we have had over the years are individuals who have come seeking a way to improve their chances at employment. We have special training cost agreements for those individuals who are just trying to get back on their feet and would otherwise not be able to afford the types of certification and training we provide. In many cases employers require certification and training before hiring an individual. In other cases, employees find themselves stuck in the same labor positions with no upward mobility unless they can find the required training for a particular job that will give them the financial security they need to excel. OSTI has provided and does provide that necessary training that the common man needs to succeed. Our firm believes in changing lives and strengthening the workforce through providing the proper training and education to our fellow man. |
MINING SAFETY HEALTH ADMINISTRATION
(MSHA) TRAINING Mining Safety is another critical section of the United States Department of Labor. The standard training requirements are necessary for anyone who is currently employed or is seeking employment in the mining industry. Under the Mining Safety Health Administration (MSHA), workplace safety regulations are constantly being established and maintained in order to protect the rights and safety of miners and contractors who are associated with the industry.
The MSHA safety standards that regulate the mining industry have various subparts much like OSHA except that there are various modules that are specific to mining. There are two types of miners according to MSHA 30 CFR Part 46 and 48 the New Miner and the Experienced Miner. The new miner is the individual who is has not been working in the mining profession for at least twelve (12) consecutive months. The experienced miner refers to the individual who has worked in the industry for Twelve (12) months or more, with some exceptions. It is always wise to consult with our professionals to determine which training course is appropriate for employees. The MSHA standard is divided into two training types: surface mining and underground mining. The Omega Safety Training Group is readily able to provide either. Initial required training is 24 hours which is required to be followed up with an Annual 8 hour Refresher course. Based on the type of mining operation, there may be a need for a more site specific topic to be covered in the training course. What ever that topic(s) may be, our firm can make the proper arrangements to include it into the required curriculum. The Omega Safety Training Group prides itself in creating quality curricula to suit all our clients' needs. Register for Courses NOW!
